Alaska is our northernmost state with a fascinating history and for its size, our least populated. At some times of the year and in some areas the sun shines up to 22 hours a day in summer and as little as 4 hours in the wintertime! Sun protection is a concern so Banana Boat, Aveeno or Neutrogena should always be handy.

Kachemak Bay State Park has the honor of being Alaska’s first state park. Fly from Anchorage to Homer and then water taxi, air charter or rent a boat to get to this 400,000 acre park. Here you can enjoy kayaking, great fishing, boating, hiking, camping and mountain sports. The variety of wildlife is fantastic; land, air and sea. Don’t want to camp? Stay at Sadie Cove Wilderness Lodge, an eco lodge where you can wake up to a view of Mt. Augustine, one of the few active volcanoes in America. The lodge sits right on the water and is surrounded by the park. One of the rooms is a land locked yacht of gorgeous mahogany and teak. In the winter there is skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding or snowmobiling on an Arctic Cat. You should plan on a lot of outdoor time so check in with Patagonia online for the proper gear.

Remember the Electric sunglasses and enjoy the sun, nature and waters of Alaska!
