Skiing & Snowboarding | Canada | British Columbia | Under the sun fun in the snow

Sun Peaks is an award winning resort having been named 10th in the 2008 Top Ten Ski Resorts in North America by Condé Nast and Cadogen Travel Guides named it the 2008 Best Family Resort in North America. Fly into Kamloops Airport on one of three airlines; Air Canada Jazz, Pacific Coastal Airlines or West Jet with various shuttle services available such as, Sun Star Shuttle or Sun Peaks Central Reservations. The least expensive is the Kamloops Ski/Ride Bus departing from Tim Hortons at the Aberdeen Mall. Car rentals are available from Avis, Hertz or Budget or use Kami Cab or Yellow Cab with wheelchair assistance. Decisions, decisions. Sun Peaks Resort describes itself as a “ski in, ski out Alpine village” where vehicles are not necessary. Choose from 10 great hotels and lodges, 2 B&B’s, 15 town homes or 29 chalets for your time off the slopes.

Delta Sun Peaks Resort is a four diamond luxury hotel with Mantles Restaurant and Lounge, a health club, heated outdoor pool, three outdoor hot tubs, sauna and a gym. Horie Sun Lodge is a Japanese bed and breakfast and is the only place to find authentic Japanese food in Sun Peaks. Yum! Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, Snowboarding, Snowmobile tours, Snowshoe tours, sleigh rides, dog sledding, ice skating or how about tubing, it’s all here for your wintertime ‘fun in the sun’ pleasure. Whew! Speaking of snowshoe, how about Snowshoe Golf?! Rough day in the snow, then check out the Sun Peaks Spa or have Uli’s Mountain Massage come to you or go to Uli’s Spa just 10 minutes away. The Sports Centre is kid friendly with a heated outdoor pool, kid’s pool, hot tub and tennis courts. Remember that sun reflected off the snow can be as strong as the summer sun so be sure to have L’Oréal Ombrelle sunscreens on hand.

Whistler Blackcomb is the Official Alpine Skiing venue for the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games. Fly into Vancouver and then either rent a car or use one of the many shuttle services to get to the resort area along the Sea-to-Sky Highway. Want a relaxing opportunity for impressive views of coastline, canyons and mountains? Then hop aboard the Whistler Mountaineer train and travel from Vancouver to the resort in a 3 hour trip with two classes of travel to choose from. Whoo Whoo. All Aboard!

If you are in a real hurry to get to the slopes, the Blackcomb Helicopters will take you there and you will still be able to see some breathtaking sights. One of the most exciting activities at Whistler is Heli-skiing! You are flown into some of the most exciting ski areas available. The best type of skis for this adventure are the Rossignol "XXX Bandit" powder ski, designed for expert skiers, and the Rossignol "Axiom" for advanced or intermediate. You can also rent skis or snowboards at the Powder Hut.

Videos will be taken, so to view these videos head over to the Après Party afterwards at Buffalo Bills in the Adara Hotel. When you are not skiing or snowboarding there is also snowmobiling, a tube park, horse drawn sleighs, dog sledding, snowshoeing, Zip Trek Ecotours, SnoLimo Ecotours, backcountry wildlife tours, SnowCat tours and even fishing. So much to do and so little time! There are many fine restaurants to dine at or take a dining tour where you get the taste of 5 great restaurants in one meal. Hotels, condos, homes and chalets can be found in the Whistler Village.

The Adara Hotel is a small luxury boutique hotel with 41 guestrooms and suites with many of the amenities you want and is pet friendly. There is also the Westin Resort and Spa, an all suites resort and home to the Avello Spa and Health Club for taking care of those sore ski muscles. There are boutiques, art galleries or shops where you can shop in the valley. There are many who feel this is the #1 ski resort in North America.
