Solitude, Solitude

A perfect name for a perfect place, Solitude is located right outside Salt Lake City and has world-class amenities anyone would enjoy. Average Snowfall is over 500 inches here! The top elevation is just over 10,000 ft and this mountain is definitely well-equipped to take care of skiers and boarders alike with 8 lifts (3 High Speed Quad, 1 Quad, 1 Triple and 3 Doubles), serving 64 named runs and 3 bowls. Uphill lift capacity is about 14,450 riders per hour. Solitude also offers a "family-friendly" terrain park designed with fun in mind for everyone. For lift tickets, an all day Adult (14 and up) costs $62, ages 7-13 is $39 and kids 6 and under are FREE. There are also such things as "Ride Passes" where you pay by the ride, rather than the day. Check out Solitude's best kept secret...Nordic Skiing. Located at 8,700 ft, around Silver Lake, the extensive trail system here takes ones breath away, and the setting couldn't be better, or more beautiful.

I like The Inn at Solitude, for places to stay. Guest rooms range from a deluxe room to practical kitchenettes and have views of either Solitude Village or the Wasatch Mountains. In the winter and around the holidays, a Suite or a kitchenette will cost you anywhere from $350-$500/night, but the location is worth it!

Writer’s note: The “SolBright” Adult Pass ($72) - Solitude Mountain Resort and Brighton Ski Resort offer one lift ticket to ski both areas, weather permitting. Brighton and Solitude are connected by a trail called SolBright, which is groomed when the mountain conditions permit and allows people to ski between the two ski resorts. The trail and pass are only sold on days when conditions permit the opening of the trail - please be sure to call on conditions.

Snowbasin is a Sun Valley resort that has been open continuously since 1939. Fly into Salt Lake International Airport, pick up your Enterprise car, jump on I-15 and head north for an easy 33-mile drive from Salt Lake City. The 2002 Olympic Winter Games came to Utah and Snowbasin was chosen as the venue for the men's and women's downhill, super G and combined races. The work done for this event was a boon to the resort and skiers reaped the rewards. Earl’s Lodge and Needles Lodge exist for the comfort of patrons with fireplaces, food, drink and views. John Paul Lodge is a place to warm up and relax with some fabulous views. The Grizzle Center houses the Sport Shop, Repair Shop, Rental Shop, private storage lockers, shower facilities and The Grizzlies Cub’s Den, a day care facility. The closest town for lodging is Huntsville with numerous small hotels like the Jackson Fork Inn or check out condos, townhouses and homes in Wolf Creek.
